Sa7beh Bacho
(2020)
Sa7beh (pronounced sah-beh, سحبة) is a Lebanese lottery game that kids used to buy from their local convenience store in the 60-70’s.
Children would purchase the sahbeh ticket from the shopkeeper Bacho, mark 5 squares, and wait to see if any matched his hidden selection. A match meant winning a small prize.
The game became a cherished part of many childhoods and remains nostalgic to this day, that in 2020, one of those former children hired me to bring that game back to life on mobile.
Named after the original shopkeeper, Sa7beh Bacho pays tribute to the game's roots, which literally translates to Bacho's Lottery.
To allow the user to relive the 60’s and 70’s Lebanese era in the game, the key colours of the game interface are faded shades of red and green (like the national flag), while a dispersion of brown and beige is used on the background to invoke feelings of warmth, hospitality and nostalgia.
To further evoke that era, photography was used as the main visual style, to help the players fully immerse themselves in Bacho’s shop and, in turn, the game itself.
